It’s a baby girl for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.  The former Miss World had been admitted to the Seven Hills hospital yesterday.  Mumbai, Nov 16 (IANS) A girl was born to star couple Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan at a private hospital here Wednesday morning.

The baby, their first child, was born at the Seven Hills Hospital. Mother and daughter were both doing fine.

'IT'S A GIRL!!,' Abhishek, 35, posted on micro-blogging site Twitter.com. He had recently said he wanted a daughter who looked like Aishwarya.

Proud grandfather Amitabh Bachchan too couldn't control his happiness and tweeted: 'I AM DADA to the cutest baby girl, A dada ji ... Ecstatic.'

Hospital sources said the delivery was normal and came a few minutes before 10 a.m. The Bachchan and Rai families were present for the momentous occasion.

Aishwarya, 38, developed labour pains around 4 a.m. and was taken to the labour room where the delivery took place after nearly six hours.

The actress is on the fifth floor of the luxury private hospital in Andheri east.

The hospital had booked three rooms on the floor -- one for Aishwarya, the other for the Bachchan family and the third for the Rai family. The entire floor was kept out of bounds for all except the two families.

The hospital has been under tight security for the past three days in expectation of the youngest member of the Bachchan family.

Aishwarya was admitted to the hospital Monday night, according to her spokesperson.

The Bachchan family had been waiting for the baby's arrival for a few days and preparing for the child's welcome.

The girl is Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan's third grandchild, after Agastya and Navya Naveli -- children of his daughter Shweta and son-in-law Nikhil Nanda.

Aishwarya tied the knot with Abhishek in April 2007 and rumours about her pregnancy had been doing the rounds ever since.

In June this year, when Amitabh announced her pregnancy through Twitter, it grabbed the headlines.

A 10-point advisory by the Broadcast Editor's Association (BEA) reportedly asked TV channel heads to curtail media coverage regarding the high-profile delivery.

The Bachchans are gearing up for a grand baby shower for their bahu Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

As Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is approaching her due date (November 2011), Jaya Bachchan will apparently be hosting a grand baby shower or 'godh-bharai' for Ash on October 18 at their residence in Jalsa, Mumbai. Jaya Bachchan's daughter and Abhishek Bachchan's sister Shweta Bachchan has apparently flown in from Delhi to help her mother prepare for the big event.

As per reports in Times of India, the event will be held in the afternoon after which Aishwarya Rai will leave for her mother's home where she will deliver her first born. The Rais will follow their own customs and traditions.

If reports are to be believed, Jaya is focusing on every detail and has even planned on what jewellery Aishwarya will be wearing for her godh bharai. There will be singing, dancing and a lot of entertainment which is expected to be attended by 'whos-who' of the Bollywood industry. Few of the celebrities who will grace the occasion include Sussanne Roshan, Sonali Bendre, Gauri Khan, Maanayata Dutt, Kajol, Twinkle, Khanna and sister Rinke Khanna and Sridevi amongst many others.

Madhur Bhandarkar’s ambitious project Heroine looks like a never ending project. Aishwarya Rai’s pregnancy came as a shock to the director. But now the final word is out that since the movie would require Ash to dance, smoke and run, UTV Productions have decided that they cannot complete the project as Aishwarya, being in pregnancy stage, should not risk her health.

UTV movies released a press release stating: “We would like to put an end to the speculative and factually incorrect stories that are doing the rounds on Heroine, and to clarify the position on the film once and for all. At this point nothing is more important than Aishwarya’s well being and good health. In that context, we have all mutually agreed that the best step would be to avoid shooting further, rather than proceeding with an incredibly demanding schedule over the coming months. Even as we will truly miss this opportunity to work with Aishwarya, the entire unit wishes her the very best for the exciting time ahead, as she and Abhishek move into this special new phase in their lives.”

Since, Ash is no more a part of the film, rumours has it that Priyanka Chopra had shown keen interest in replacing Aish and even sms’ed Madhur to cast her!

However, Priyanka Chopra dismissed all rumours and wrote on a social networking website: “read some stupid article about how i wanna do @mbhandarkar268 s (Madhur Bhandarkar) film HEROINE..i think madhur is an amazing director and it’ll be amazing to work together again but GUYS this one aint it!!! I wish him and Aishwarya lots of luck with the film.”
